Trash-free kid's lunches....

Although we have nothing against plastic sandwich bags (they’re nifty and neat), we were surprised to learn the average child who packs a disposable lunch generates 67 pounds of trash a year. We were more surprised to learn a discarded juice box retains its weight, volume and form for at least four decades. That’s forty years! A banana peel that finds it way into the landfill (instead of the compost pile) decomposes a mere 25 percent in 15 years.
With trash piling up each year and our planet straining under the weight, we can see the value in packing children’s lunches in reusable containers: no plastic sandwich bags, no juice boxes, no candy wrappers, no individual packs of string cheese. To learn more, go to: www.wastefreelunches.org
Now we only need to figure out how to convince our children not to throw away their reusable forks!
