Miss Christine, drama cat ...

If a cat can be a drama queen, Miss Christine fit the persona. It may have started when my daughter named her for the leading lady in Phantom of the Opera. As with all drama queens, she caused people to have extreme reactions, from “What a neat cat” to “Don’t you think she’s a bit neurotic?”
Yet she was a beautiful cat with a tortoiseshell coat and green eyes. If she graced us with her presence, she’d talk more than any teenager on a cell phone. I found it endearing, but my husband never agreed.
Even as Miss Christine grew older, no one could guess her age. At age 18, she kept her youthful figure. She had a kitten-like exuberance, demonstrated by jumping up on the kitchen counter to grab a treat when no one was looking. If she ate half a pie, she convinced us she thought the counter was her personal buffet line. Our other cat, named Scud (think Garfield) exhibits only enough energy to flop down on the floor and roll over to have his belly patted. He may have enjoyed Miss Christine’s leftovers, but he was always an innocent bystander. Speaking of food, if Miss Christine knew a rodent was within 20 miles, she had her name on it.
She was definitely "a lady." We’ll miss her.
