Save the Planet
Sociable guerrilla bagging...

That’s what Claire Morsman, the founder of Morsbags from the United Kingdom, calls it! Today is Earth Day, and this is a social movement designed to bring an end to plastic grocery bags. Morsman figured supermarkets and politicians will take too long to solve the problem, so she dreamed up a social-networking way to save the planet, as well as the wild animals harmed each year by plastic bags.
According to her website: www.morsbags.com, more than a million plastic bags are consumed each minute across the globe. Her solution? To form “pods” of like-minded people who gather together to sew cotton grocery bags, then give them away to shoppers for free. All you need are some friends, a place to gather, a sewing machine, some material and some wine and/or chocolate cake. And, you can buy and download labels from her site.
So far, pods have been springing up across the United Kingdom, as well as in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Luxembourg, Germany, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Romania, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, India and Japan. Perhaps, your town is next!
