What’s happening with Drive-Ins ...
It’s
almost summer and years ago you’d be planning a trip to the drive-in
movie theater soon. In the past, the United States had 4,063 drive-ins.
Today, the number is approximately 400. If you’re looking for some
nifty information about drive-ins, you can visit: www.driveintheater.com.
They have lots of info, including the fact that Richard M Hollingshead,
Jr., of Camden, N.J., invented the drive-in movie theater, using his
driveway and backyard. Not long ago, NPR
did a story about a possible resurgence of drive-ins, with nearly 100
of them opening or re-opening in the last decade. Let’s hear it for big
outdoor screen, hot dogs at the concession stand and late steamy nights
in a dark car!
